Just a quick update. The death toll is (I think) at 18. Last I heard there are 20 or so missing. The water is pretty much receeding in most areas around the State.
A comment on Southeast Queensland citizens: The other day we had more than 5,000 volunteers helping out around Brisbane and Ipswich during their weekends. Working for free, just wanting to help, swinging shovels, taking away debris, cleaning people's houses - it is just an amazing highlight of the human spirit!
For myself, Duckie has been recalled to some active duty - for which I am very grateful. The days are incredibly long, my partner and I are pretty much shattered - and I am loving it!
So Campers, when the news is full of crappy stories about how terrible people can be to each other, remember the 5,000+ souls giving up their own time to help people they don't even know and will probably never see again. It'll remind you that, regardless of what we keep hearing, the majority of people are full of human spirit.
Stay safe and well.
