Oops.. lost a knee

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 16, 2010, 9:23 AM
No context for a sore knee here -

On Thursday around lunch-time, I noticed I was limping.  By the time I left work, I had a bit of pain in my leg. I went home on the bus and couldn't get comfy... stupid leg, why is it kinda hurting?

Woke up on Friday morning in a sea of pain (and I mean a damn SEA).  Checked out said knee - no swelling, no bruising... it looked fine... ouch.. still had a sea of pain (and I mean a bloody OCEAN).  Made an early appointment at the doctors.

Talked to the doctor about my brother having had knee cancer... he said.. unlikely that it would be genetic.  I think you pulled it - no torn ligaments, or it would have swelled.  Okay... umm... hurts bad... take these anti-inflamatories.. have whatever pain killers you need. It won't hurt so much in a day's time.

My dearest Rozie went in to the chestist to get the pain killers.  I waited in the car.  It got grim and I passed out (no, not joking).  Woke up, vomitted everywhere, shook like there was an earthquake and drowned in sweat. Ehewww... pain and much grossness.. how nice.

Two days later, the anti-inflamatories seemed to have worked.  Limping like a limping thing, but the pain has gone waaaayyyyy down. Can't help but wonder...

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY KNEE????!!!

Stay well doodes.. wish me luck..

Duckie'o'the'sore'leg.

GOOD LORD, Duckie! You sound like me with that knee! My knee has been troubling me for 12 years (since I was 11) but only recently has it been getting so bad that I wake up in the middle of the night in tears and can't walk anywhere or up and down the stairs. I've yet to pass out or actually vomit from the pain, but I've come pretty close to puking everywhere from it. It prevents me from holding down a job, that's for sure... I had a good thing going with AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) but my doctor made me quit because of my stupid knee.

I reeeeeeally hope your knee problem isn't something as serious as cancer. That would suck on an EPIC level, liek woa. Get X-rays and an MRI ASAP, bro. In the meantime, we can suffer with our knee agony together. *raises crutch*

Oh, and I forgot to ask. What happened? How come such a youngie has a shot knee? (Actually, I didn't know that before now. Can you get surgery or anything?)

I grew too fast in my growth spurts during puberty and my patellar tendon pulled up a bone spur at the top of my tibia (shin bone). It was always hurting so I developed a limp in my stride, which gradually became PART of my stride and weakened the muscular structure supporting my knee. Over the years, damage was done and now it's evolved into an -osis, which means it's become degenerative. I don't have health insurance so I can't get the proper treatment for it. But come January, I will have insurance, so I can get an MRI and then whatever treatment I need for it, whether that's surgery or not.

That's very reassuring to hear. Let me tell you, one of the things I love over here is our free health system. Everyone over here has the right to have their health saved - even the homeless. The rich have to pay for it (me included - and I'm lower middle class). I can't concieve that a lot of Americans find that notion socialist. To me, if you devalue one life, you devalue them all.

Awww!! Poor Andrew! *hugs* What a horrible thing to happen to you! I hope you feel better! It could be an insect bite. It sounds a little extreme for a simple sprain, maybe you did tear at the tendon a bit? It sounds like that could be the case. Are you going to get an X-ray or CAT scan?
