America is a big place.  Every so often, the Government goes a tad silly and makes the most stupid rules.  However, here is a story which is truely spectacular in its stupidity, even for the American Government!  [link]

If you are American and resent being made to look like you live in a class A lunatic assylum, email your local congress-person about this one. I know you guys are trained to expect bugger all from your public services but in every other country in the world, the Government understands the "service" part of that phrase.

Mind you, if you are an Ozzie or Kiwi and wondering why our soldiers are dying to support the very morons who treat us like second class citizens, perhaps you should email the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs to voice your protest: [link]

God Bless America - for their Government has an amazing ability to make sure nobody else will.

Love Duckie.

And from my research about holidaying overseas, my understanding also is that visa rules are stupid in pretty much every country.

Our soldiers are not dying to support the US government. THey're dying (and very few of them, really) to make Afghanistan a liveable country for the Afghans.

I also don't think we know anywhere near enough about the situation in that blog (that you linked to) to determine how stupid the law is or how "Obama" is "treating his friends". (Realistically Obama probably had nothing to do with it). I have friends whose parents are Christians who were living in Qatar for 14 years. About three weeks ago they were given 4 days notice to get out of the country permanently and were given no reason for it - although it was pretty obvious as many other Christians were being kicked out of the country at the same time.

Maybe it's some silly little random technicality that has resulted in the US kicking this bloke out, or maybe it's something that's happened that he didn't realise, or whatever. I am all for paying out the US when they deserve it but I just don't think there's enough info here.

Well that sucks. It sounds like they have got it in for him for some strange reason. I still dont understand how someone who has a green card can be deported but then I am not up on American politics. They seem to make rules to suit themselves. Good luck Beau - if there is anyone who can take the government on then its you. My thoughts are with you.

I have read both Beau's and your journal and I must say I am confused. My brother went over to the States more than 15 years ago. He was sponsored by a large stockbroking firm and was on a H1 visa when needed to be reviewed yearly. He fell in love with an American girl and they got married. This did not mean he automatically got residency but his H1 visa carried him and after 2 years married and in the States he got a green card and residency. Two years ago the same stockbroking firm offered me an incredible opportunity to go and work for them in the Human Resource field and once again they sponsored me to go over and work. Unfortunately a number of things happened which I will not go into but I was assured by the stockbroking company that they could continue sponsoring me until I was able to get a green card. I actually spoke to my brother about this scenario and he is puzzled why, if Beau has a green card, cant he stay in the country. He said if Home Security is involved that this is serious and means someone is blacklisted, however wonders if they have made some kind of mistake because a green card usually means you can live and work in the States. Beau if you are reading this, my brother suggests you go to an Immigration Lawyer who can get information for you on why this is happening. I hope you get it sorted out It is not fair to separate two people in love for some kind of stupid bureacracy. Otherwise, can someone sponsor you to stay in the USA. I know things are a lot tighter now than they were 2 years ago but its a thought. Good luck!

They forgot to tell him about a hearing which meant he was automatically deported. I guess it's kinda hard to turn up for a hearing you don't know about.

I do wish them luck BUT they are dealing with one of the biggest bureaucracies in the world.

I am having a hard time with all of this. Thanks for your good Karma and research. Beau and I will figure this out. Beau has sent mail back to Homeland Security with affidavits stating we were never sent notifications. We also sent another $560 which is what it cost for them to read the letter. Keep your fingers crossed. Perhaps they will understand that you can't make an appointment when your not aware of one. I guess both governments are doing what they think is right. We live in difficult times with war, terrorism and financial crisis. With so many people in line to go somewhere it is a wonder HS has gotten us this far along. Keep the faith, and I will as well.
